Well, to all the people who said I'd never accomplish anything because I procrastinate too much, just you wait and see.
I don't know. It still seems crazy to me that we've gone from the basics of needing food, shelter, and water to multi-million pound houses, and meals in restaurants at eye-watering prices, while drifting between emotional paralysis and emotional incontinence of one form, or another, over issues that for the most part, have fuck all to do with us on an individual personal level.
An unknown author called 'Jaeka' summed up everything recently when I read the following -
"As you grow older, you will realise that you appreciate the silence, the privacy, the peace, the happiness and tears. You will realise that acceptance is not something you get from everyone and it doesn't come from asking the world to approve you.
Acceptance is something you dig within for it is solely coming from you - you possess it, you own it, and you name it.
Search for that peace in everything you do. Seize every moment, stay away from things that will rob your happiness, live a meaningful life and make the most out of it.
Allow peace, contentment, and happiness to feed your soul - but the world doesn't necessarily have to know."
I couldn't have said it better myself!
Metaphorically speaking, if humanity, as a whole, was living an urban life, mine has been suburban for as long as I can remember. You know, somewhere outside the circle of whatever 'normality' is. Like, living on the outer rings Of Saturn. Perhaps, better still, a spectator at the zoo humanity has created for itself, and, by all accounts, seems to somewhat blindly, thrive in.
Again, quoting some unknown writer by the name of George Orwell -
"So long as they continued to work and breed, their other activities were without importance. Left to themselves, like cattle turned loose upon the plains of Argentina, they had reverted to a style of life that appeared to be natural to them, a sort of ancestral pattern. Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbours, films, football, beer and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult."
Oh, 'that' Orwell, right? You mean there was only one? I am shocked!
Anyway. The point being that we live in an age where, in reality, we no longer have to think for ourselves. No, we don't! As long as pretty much everything we need is no further than a fingertip away. Whether it be an answer to something, or goods and services, we are having to do far less to reach whatever it happens to be. Whereas, before the invention, or, more correctly, the commercialisation of the internet, people relied on their own resources. In other words, the full capacity of the human brain.
Nowadays, we have been gradually persuaded to use our brains in different ways, and isn't life so much easier? Sarcasm aside though, it can be argued that we humans are slowly being dumbed down towards inertia. You know, where we have to do very little for ourselves, and potentially, the state (whatever that may be) will be there to provide in just about, if not every way, for us. And right now, we're heading towards that warm, and comfortable world of the much-talked-about 'Universal Income' - where we are cuddled, in a sense, and become more malleable in the false belief we'll have nothing at all to complain about.
Life will be bliss and perfect in every way, wont it?. Bullshit!
Look at the uncertainty, unrest, and panic in the world right now. Look at the increasing number of people accessing, or, trying to access UK mental health services. Look at how terms such as 'emergency' and 'crisis' have crept into popular, everyday vocabulary. Look at the levels of violence on the streets among the younger population. Look at the increase in homelessness and substance misuse. Look at 'poverty' Britain where people queue for foodbanks - even those in full-time employment, such as nurses.
If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd say it's all been carefully crafted to deliberately place people in a state where they have to rely upon the 'State' to exist, and even though it increasingly feels like politicians are with purpose creating this, it isn't the case at all. No, it's more like sheer incompetence that will cause it, to the point where it will inevitably become the default position.
With the world slowly nosediving into one spectacular fuck up even the Almighty couldn't have conceived on a tab of acid and some Biblical crystal meth thrown in for additional miracle power, humanity has well passed its saving date. We simply choose not to believe it because it could never possibly happen. This is what's otherwise known as being lulled into a false sense of security.
But never mind, the State will come to the rescue and provide the perfect remedy, and it will be called 'State Control'. Except it won't be called that at all. It'll be something far nicer that makes everyone believe it's anything but. Perhaps, 'Lala Land'?
Brilliant very true
