Want To Improve Your Overall Health And Wellbeing? Cut Out The Noise!
Okay. So, in a break from my normal, more jocular, possibly even cynical take on the world around me, today I’ve decided to get down to the nitty-gritty. Having found my own version of sanity away from the bullshit this asylum of a world constantly projects onto me, I’ve decided to give you a heads-up as to how you can also screen yourself from the lunatics while living in reasonable comfort from inside the asylum.
Our world is constantly bombarded by stimuli. Between demanding relationships, chaotic environments, and the ever-present buzz of media, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. To find true peace, you have to eliminate the things that drain you. My life began to change in remarkable ways once I distanced myself from the ‘white noise’ of the outside world.
My first step was to identify the "noise" in my life, both literal (traffic, chatter) and metaphorical (toxic relationships/people, unfulfilling jobs, social media, newspapers, television, etc). This noise drowns out your inner voice, making it difficult to find peace.
To disconnect from this noise requires courage. It means setting boundaries, even if it means letting go of all forms of relationships that don't uplift you. By decluttering your living space, and disconnecting from technology, you create space physically and emotionally.
To cultivate a space of peace, surround yourself with positive relationships, calming environments, and activities that align with your values.
Peace also comes from letting go of the need for external validation. True peace is internal - tuning into your own wisdom and understanding what truly makes you happy. Meditation and mindfulness can be powerful tools for cultivating a state of presence and observing the noise without getting caught up in it.
Finding peace also involves accepting change and impermanence. Clinging to fleeting things creates unnecessary stress. By focusing on the constant – your inner self – you create a more lasting sense of peace.
Solitude is not loneliness; it's a time to think, reflect, recharge, and reconnect with your inner self. It is during these moments that you gain clarity about your goals, and what you, yes YOU want from YOUR life.
Finally, forgive yourself and others. Holding grudges and regrets creates a mental cacophony that prevents you from living peacefully.
The game changer is finding inner peace. Peace is a process of subtraction. By making these choices, you cultivate an environment that supports well-being and the ability to navigate life with a sense of calm, and clarity, and not get caught up in the bullshit, like it’s yours to take on board, and own. It's about letting go of what no longer serves you, creating space for stillness, and honouring your inner voice. Nothing is more fulfilling and harmonious than a life transformed through this journey that’s constant work in progress.
You can thank me later. After the penny finally drops the majority of bullshit you allow to affect your life isn’t yours to take any form of ownership over whatsoever. You’re just one of the many millions of screens it’s projected onto without your permission, and what you never asked for. Just limit the amount of time you invest in everything other than yourself that holds you back from finding that inner stillness, peace and calm.
Not everything is your problem, and not every problem can be solved. So, why cause yourself unnecessary stress over things you have absolutely no control over? If you want to escape the asylum, bloody well let go! Focus on yourself, and your own healing. That’s your escape route from the asylum, and, ultimately, your freedom.
