So, the really appalling thing here is that the women (and man) who have been giving the statements and asking the questions are the ones unafraid to stand up and do this. The theatricals not only childishly ignore these people, but are saying to any woman who is too anxious about this issue to talk about it in public, let alone stand up in the public gallery in the council chamber of the UK's fifth biggest city and talk about it, that she basically does not matter. The people that matter are the men who think they are women and the women who think they are men, and, as you point out, it is, at least in the case of the councillors being 'protected' here, their feelings that are hurt. No-one is saying they don't have a right to exist blah blah blah. No one is threatening their person. Male sexual predators, however, frequently harm women, as well as vulnerable men too. And it is the job of the councillors not to protect one another's feelings in some weird power tribe cult, but to listen to their electorate and at least attempt to ensure practical things in the city are running smoothly (all right, pie in the sky, but in principle...).
